Coping with coronavirus: The Main Line pauses, pivots and pitches in. Will life ever be the same?

April 11, 2020 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Frankly, we weren’t going to publish. This coronavirus crisis is too crazy/awful/unwieldy to even begin to unpack. Plus, we weren’t sure how to handle our loyal advertisers, who have enough bills to worry about.

But we’ve been monitoring the Main Line’s New Normal. And while plenty about it stinks, there’s good news worth sharing.

So we’re going ahead. You’ll see our advertisers’ banners and hear some of their corona-coping stories but they won’t be billed. It’s the least we can do.

School’s out for summer.

As of this week, it’s out forever … for star Stoga teacher Deb Ciamacca.

For years, the former Marine and beloved U.S. Government teacher has urged her students to get off the sidelines. “Democracy’s not a spectator sport,” she’d tell them.

After speaking out about gun safety here – and on national and international TV – she put her career where her mouth was.

Devon Anthropologie to swap out deceptive ‘skinny’ mirrors; Plus, Casablanca spices up Bryn Mawr; The Simple Greek feeds Wayne; F45 trains Paoli; Catwalk for Wings & lots more

March 21, 2019 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Hey, Mirror, Mirror: Who’s the slimmest of them all? Shoppers trying on clothes at the new Devon Anthropologie.

Readers have been telling us for months that Anthro’s dressing-room mirrors make them look a tad taller and a smidge thinner than they actually are.

Thanks for the flattering image, the women told us, but, uh, no thanks.

SAVVY SOCIAL: Painting Town Red; Kicking off Antiques Show & Late Night ‘Stoga; St. Katharine’s at 100; Help Us Adopt; Nova Law auction; Fox Chase Fight Night & more

April 9, 2017 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

A red tide washed over Aronimink Golf Club April 5 when a few hundred women turned out for “Paint the Town Red,” a shopping social.

The cause: Raising awareness and funds for the Women’s Heart Initiative at Lankenau Heart Institute. (Fun fact: The Heart Institute has 13 women cardiologists, the most in the region. Girl power! )

Why are so many seeing red? Main Line Health’s Women’s Heart Initiative is spreading the word far and wide that heart disease – not cancer – is women’s #1 killer so gals need to get savvy about their heart health.

Pregnancy or new motherhood getting to you?

Join the club.

Literally.

Just open in Wayne: Hatch: A Sanctuary for Motherhood, an upscale, membership-based Mecca for expectant and new moms.

Because motherhood has its bumps – and they can’t all be covered in maternity tops.

Also because Dr. Spock and What to Expect When You’re Expecting are SO last century.

The Hatch method: an array of programs to help you “Grow, Glow and Know.” The goals: Get physically and mentally fit and get educated. Baby and hubby will thank you.
