What $3,000 – $7,300 rent buys you in Suburban Square: Easy living, 21st-century style. The first Coulter Place residents move in this week.

January 22, 2026 / By Caroline O'Halloran / 3 Comments /

With 70 swanky shops and restaurants literally at your feet, life at the new Coulter Place apartments offer copious conveniences – if not a whole lot of personal square footage.

It took five years for Suburban Square’s first on-site residences to go from concept and design to demolition and construction.

Are they worth the wait … and their steep price tags?

With a new name and developer, it’s go time for ‘The Piazza at Ardmore,’ the area’s most ambitious redevelopment since Suburban Square

October 28, 2025 / By Caroline / /

When Toll Brothers pulled out in 2024, the future of the long-stalled “Piazza Project” seemed cloudy.

With climbing costs forcing Main Line developers to press pause, some wondered if the mammoth mixed-used project – the largest of its kind in Ardmore history – would be put on ice indefinitely. If a behemoth like Toll Bros. could be blown off course by stiff economic headwinds, would anyone step up?

Well, wonder no more.

Tug of war over Stoneleigh’s ‘sister’; Fired up to dine at Hook and Ladder; Hot new Ardmore spots; Next act for TV’s Jeff Devlin; What’s missing from Main Line MONOPOLY; Homecooked & more

The chorus to save Oakwell – Stoneleigh’s Villanova “sister” – from school district buzzsaws is practically deafening.

And we’re not just talking about cars honking for picketers outside Lower Merion School District’s Ardmore offices each Friday.

Devon Horse Show edition: Survivor Kirstin Day back in the saddle, What’s new in 2019, Shop the show. Plus, Cryoskin is here (!), Picket Post Pickle, Swedesford update, Trace Ardmore, Ardrossan, new Wayne co-op & more

May 23, 2019 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

On June 1, Kirstin Rabe Day will return to the show ring at Devon.

It’s been a while.

Twenty years, in fact.

With her erect carriage, her spit-shined boots and gloved fingers, Kirstin will be the picture of equestrian elegance..

But beneath her finery, emotions will be churning.

I’m here.

I’m healthy.

I’ve made it back.

When she last competed at Devon, Kirstin, now 38, was a junior at Radnor High School. She won two ribbons.

Seven months later, she had to give up riding altogether, and with it, her beloved horse.

Transgender in Tredyffrin – C. McMillan’s story; Semi-Super Wawa to Wayne?; LM school search update; J. Alexander’s KOP & Alomore in Gateway & much more

August 7, 2018 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Don’t bother searching for Cal Stone McMillan in Conestoga’s 2103 yearbook. The only McMillan listed is brainy trumpeter Caroline, and well, she’s long gone.

Because Caroline, in trans parlance, is Cal’s “dead name.”

In print and in person, Caroline has been largely erased – birth certificate, passport and driver’s license all say “Calvin” now. Calling Cal “Caroline” would be “deadnaming,” disrespectful because it signals non-acceptance.

Along with the masculine name, there’s a manly physique, a strong handshake, a deeper voice, a beard.

Julia Rae Schlucter: glamour & grit in the gifted girl next door; Radnor’s fab new library; Sweet spots, summer beauty fixes & sunny workouts; Ivory Tree & more

July 12, 2018 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

It would be easy to write about Julia Rae, née Julia Rae Schlucter, as yet another precocious Main Line talent.

We’d tell you she was performing in regional theater at age 6.

That she was recording original songs professionally by age 15.

That she’s been a featured singer in the 6ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade for eight years.

That she skipped senior year at the Academy of Notre Dame to pursue a music career in LA. That, still a teenager, she walked the Hollywood red carpet with Brooke Shields after one of her original songs was featured in a Shields movie.

Big ‘downtown’ Devon news; Splashy new swim school; More ethnic eats in Ardmore; Crime news; Solutions 4 Health, Devon hats, Woodlynde wonders and more

June 7, 2018 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Devon Horse Show 2018 is history – but whoa, Nelly.

There’s a move afoot that could change the look of “downtown” Devon almost as much as URBN’s fast-rising Devon Yard.

The horse show’s chairman and CEO wants to put a three-level parking garage between Devon Yard (the new Terrain/Anthropologie complex) and the show grounds.

Because, let’s face it, parking can be a pain at Devon.
