Devon Horse Show edition: Survivor Kirstin Day back in the saddle, What’s new in 2019, Shop the show. Plus, Cryoskin is here (!), Picket Post Pickle, Swedesford update, Trace Ardmore, Ardrossan, new Wayne co-op & more

May 23, 2019 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

On June 1, Kirstin Rabe Day will return to the show ring at Devon.

It’s been a while.

Twenty years, in fact.

With her erect carriage, her spit-shined boots and gloved fingers, Kirstin will be the picture of equestrian elegance..

But beneath her finery, emotions will be churning.

I’m here.

I’m healthy.

I’ve made it back.

When she last competed at Devon, Kirstin, now 38, was a junior at Radnor High School. She won two ribbons.

Seven months later, she had to give up riding altogether, and with it, her beloved horse.

Big ‘downtown’ Devon news; Splashy new swim school; More ethnic eats in Ardmore; Crime news; Solutions 4 Health, Devon hats, Woodlynde wonders and more

June 7, 2018 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Devon Horse Show 2018 is history – but whoa, Nelly.

There’s a move afoot that could change the look of “downtown” Devon almost as much as URBN’s fast-rising Devon Yard.

The horse show’s chairman and CEO wants to put a three-level parking garage between Devon Yard (the new Terrain/Anthropologie complex) and the show grounds.

Because, let’s face it, parking can be a pain at Devon.

Hatted hopefuls bling it on for “Jewels of Devon” Ladies Day contest

The gathering: Ladies paid $65 in advance, $80 at the door for light bites, live music, “Devontinis” and bubbly, and goody bags that included tickets to a long list of raffle prizes donated by Country Fair vendors. Just over 130 ticketholders picked up paddles to compete in the contest. A bit of a headache in recent years, party crashers were kept out by a barricade of picnic tables and volunteers checking wristbands.

Handicapping the hats for Devon Ladies Day contest; Racial Justice Town Hall & scoops around town

May 25, 2016 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

The Greatest Show on Turf is right around the corner.

Not the Devon Horse Show Grand Prix – although that night’s exploits are pretty swell, too.

No, the spectacle of which we speak comes on Grand Prix Eve when gals from far and wide converge on Devon for the Ladies Day Hat Contest.

What began as a homespun affair with a handful of hopefuls in horsey-trimmed straw toppers (extra points for Devon Blue!) has exploded into a paparazzi-packed proceeding of the first order.

Judge Carson Kressley Presiding. per usual.

(A blue-ribbon Saddlebred competitor as well as a style savant, Carson will be upping his hat game this year, sporting a custom design by la-di-da milliner Christine A Moore. Hey, if she’s good enough for J. Lo and Katy Perry, she’s good enough for our guy, Carson.)

Truly, the whole hat show has vaulted way over the top.

But that’s the fun of it.
