Generation Vape: Why Juuling’s not cool; Horse Show’s huge move; Grim find at Philly CC; Fusion upends education in Ardmore & Malvern; Plus, new Grove 1.2.1 & Avery Graham Aesthetics; White Horse Design & more

September 20, 2018 / By Caroline / /

Summer’s over and kids are back in school – reading, writing, and, increasingly, juuling.

Some are vaping right under our noses – on school buses, in cafeterias, bathrooms and bedrooms – using slick little Juul devices that look like harmless flash drives but are anything but.

Indeed, juuling is turning unsuspecting Main Line teens into nicotine addicts – one surreptitious, sweet-flavored puff at a time.

Seems even the “smart” kids are doing it.

SAVVY SOCIAL: LaBelle rocks Temple gala; Remembering Tricia Cuddy; Bryn Mawr Film, Surrey & Main Line Art Center galas; Kinney fashion show; Bag Bingo; Wynnewood wow home & more

May 5, 2017 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

A record-breaking 1,100 people partied with Patti at Temple Auxiliary’s Acres of Diamond’s gala, raising $1.3 million for critical, life-saving care.

A sparkling night at the Please Touch Museum: Guests took a spin on the carousel and bid on silent auction items, then sashayed down a red carpet to dinner under a huge custom tent.

Star power: Two Main Liners! Emcee was Flyers’ anthem singer Lauren Hart, longtime pal of Lindy Snider, wife of Larry Kaiser and daughter of Flyers’ co-founder Ed Snider. Patti LaBelle sparkled in Philadelphia Eagles Kelly green. Her private concert brought down the house.

Who’s Coming, Who’s Going, Who’s Growing in Wayne, Stoneleigh in Nova saved for ALL & Mom’s Day ideas

May 4, 2016 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Turning the page on Bryn Mawr, Main Point Books is heading west to Wayne.

Score one for Wayne in the Main Line Downtown Showdown.

Dusty, down-at-the-heels and now officially defunct, Wayne’s old-timey Reader’s Forum will get re-incarnated as Main Point Books in mid-summer.

“I wouldn’t have moved if I hadn’t been offered this specific space,” says bookseller Cathy Fiebach, a Wynnewood mom who will pack up Bryn Mawr after a three-year run and open on North Wayne Ave. the last week of July.

‘Cause Wayne’s got what Bryn Mawr’s still pining for: foot traffic.

“People understand how to park in Wayne and how to walk around town,” she tells SAVVY. “Bryn Mawr doesn’t quite have that worked out.”

‘Autograph’ to replace Wayne’s Peppercorn, Paoli’s soothing new Sanctuary, a Shark Tank success story & shortcuts around town

December 21, 2015 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

The lights are on again at the old Georges/Peppercorn in Eagle Village Shops – but only for the contractors. Main Line restaurateur Marty Grims is transforming the onetime French Country space into Autograph Brasserie, an all-new concept for the White Dog proprietor.

According to Marty’s marketing gal, we can expect “modern presentations of European classics” in a “modern American brasserie ” setting. Whatever that means.

When he bought Peppercorn last year, Marty was talking Italian. I’m guessing he switched gears when he heard about Marc Vetri’s twofer headed to Devon Yard. (And we ARE a tad overstuffed with pasta/pizza joints in these parts, don’t you think?)
