“Best Hat to Toe” winner Kathleen Kenneally claims her prize.
Hatters – some mad, many marvelous – enchanted the throngs at the Devon Horse Show Wednesday.
’Twas a Ladies Day to top all Ladies Days – with a record-smashing 274 attendees, sunny skies and an “Enchanted Garden” theme ripe for the pickin.’ (Think sprites, nymphs, fairies, butterflies, birds, toadstools, unicorns, quail eggs and more.)
Here’s a quick video stroll down Ladies Day’s merry path with celebrity hat judge and Mr. Dapper Devon himself, Carson Kressley, as your guide. Then some fun pics.

Best Group winner: The Mad Hatters Tea Party starring the White Queen Joy Mossholder Sporn (center). These Devon neighbors spent three weeks planning their trip down the rabbit hole. The Queen had to take an Advil to ward away a headache from her four-pound, 30-inch hat.

“Best Hat and Purse Pairing” winner with judges Carson Kressley and 6ABC’s Adam Joseph.

This quartet didn’t compete – but we’re thinking they should have. See you next year, ladies!

First-time contestant Wawa Ingersoll (left) took “Most Enchanted” for the whimsical aviary headdress she made herself.

Amy Holzapfel of Ella Grace Hats won in the “Professional Millinery” category. She hand-sewed each pearl in her all-silk fascinator and found the perfect dress to match it at Bloomingdales.

A trio of judges: Carson Kressley, SAVVY Main Line Caroline O’Halloran and 6ABC weather guy Adam Joseph, who lives in Devon. Caroline’s hat was embellished with fresh flowers, quail eggs, succulents and mushrooms at StudioFlora in Berwyn.

Four Girls on a Mission didn’t win but this Malvern-based group’s empowering t-shirts sure turned heads.

Milliner TIffany Arey at the post-contest Enchanted Garden luncheon at Terrain Gardens. Titled “A Cage of My own Making,” Tiffany’s hat featured a wire birdcage, a handmade hummingbird, leather magnolias, guipure lace and sinamay ribbon.

And finally, Best in Show, an apricot confection created by Pamela Targan, a former art teacher. She had the dress made to her specifications and embellished the hat herself. Pamela tells us she’s already thinking about next year’s entry.
