UPDATED: Community reeling after toddler drowns in Wilson Farm Park on Labor Day

September 3, 2024 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

The pond at Wilson Farm Park in Chesterbrook.

A terrible tragedy in Tredyffrin.

Police are investigating the drowning death of a three-year-old boy in Wilson Farm Park.

While scores of families were celebrating Labor Day in the 90-acre park, police received a call at 6:49 p.m. that a toddler had disappeared.

When Tredyffrin PD arrived, they learned the boy had been under a nanny’s supervision. An officer found the boy unresponsive in the park’s pond. After resuscitation efforts failed, he was transported to CHOP in King of Prussia where he later died, according to police reports.

The pond is ornamental only and is not open to swimming or fishing. A community hub for youth leagues, outdoor exercise, 5K fundraisers, township concerts and special events,  Wilson Farm Park has three tot lots, plus an all-abilities playground.

Will the drowning spur the township to erect a fence and put up warning signs? You can bet those options and more will be discussed by Tredyffrin officials.

“As a parent and a grandparent, I really feel or the family,” Tredyffrin Board of Supervisors Chair David Miller tells SAVVY.

Police say this is an active investigation and the boy’s name has not been released.

We added words from the chair of the board of supervisors of Tredyffrin Township. We asked him specifically if a fence or new signage might be installed around the pond in Wilson Park. As this is an active investigation, he refused to comment but he did express his sypathies for the family.
