Nationally acclaimed journalist, host and author Ali Velshi and longtime CBS3 anchor Pat Ciarrocchi will appear in Bryn Mawr May 19 on behalf of the local nonprofit, Main Line School Night.
Two award-winning journalists.
One stage.
And a whole LOT to talk about.
No wonder tickets are going fast for Main Line School Night’s May 19 Visionary Voices fundraiser: “America, the Media, & Small Acts of Courage” with MSNBC chief correspondent and host Ali Velshi in conversation with veteran news anchor Pat Ciarrocchi.
In these fraught political and economic times, Velshi seems uniquely suited to share his thoughts.
As a dual citizen of his native Canada and the U.S,, Velshi will have plenty to say about America’s newly rocky relations with its northern neighbor.
As a former business correspondent (for CNN, Al Jazeera and NBC) and current economics contributor to NPR’s Here and Now, Velshi is especially conversant about the U.S. economy and financial markets.
Also pertinent to today’s headlines, Velshi will share his family’s immigration journey as chronicled in his latest book along with his thoughts on political polarization, free press, free speech and civic engagement.
In addition to “Velshi” on MSNBC, he hosts the multi-platform “Ali Velshi Banned Book Club,” which has explored such banned classics as The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, and The Giver by Lois Lowry.
Velshi has also had a front-row seat to unfolding American history, reporting from America’s heartland to war zones around the globe.
Leading the Q-and-A with Velshi will be another veteran news voice, Pat Ciarrocchi, a ten-time Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter for CBS3 in Philadelphia.
“Velshi is a great voice of reason,” Ciarrocchi tells SAVVY. “With the Trump Administration well underway, there will be so much to discuss. It’s going to be a great night.”
Velshi will also take audience questions.
“Bringing Ali and Pat together on one stage to discuss some of America’s most pressing issues is incredibly significant at this time,” said Rebecca Cain, Executive Director of Main Line School Night. “These renowned journalists are part of our Main Line community and showcase the remarkable depth of talent and intellect among our neighbors. This same spirit drives the rich variety of our classes, workshops, trips, and tours.”
Pat Ciarocchi is a longtime resident of Lower Merion and Velshi splits his time between New York City and the Main Line.
Proceeds will support the treasured local nonprofit, Main Line School Night (MLSN), provider of enriching and thought-provoking programs to the community for 85 years.
