DELICE-ious addition to downtown Wayne: Delice et Chocolat

August 8, 2024 / By Caroline O'Halloran / /

Authentic French pastries and savories – MIA in Wayne after the departure of Aux Petits Delices – are back!

None other than the pastry chef at Le Bec Fin is the baker behind the Main Line’s second Delice et Chocolat, a sweet little bakery café that just opened softly in  downtown Wayne.  The first Delice has been an Ardmore favorite since its 2017 debut.

Drop in for to-die-for croissants (almond is a house specialty), pastries, cakes, macarons, brownies and baguettes and locally-roasted Valerio coffee. We tried a delightfully chewy chocolate macaron and the peerless tiramisu. Ooh la la.

Looking for a memorable finale for your next dinner party? Pick up a few cake samples ($9.75 ea.), slice and share.

Craveable cake slices (from left): hazelnut chocolate mousse, flourless key lime, tiramisu, pistacchio, Maldives coconut, and GF “Delice” triple chocolate.

Housemade quiches, soups, sandwiches – including the popular Le BEC (bacon, egg and cheese baked into a croissant) – begin in later August.

Owner is Wayne resident Joseph Amrani (below), the friendly Frenchman you may remember from his stints as GM at Paramour at the Wayne Hotel (now Rosalie) and Le Mas Perrier in Eagle Village Shops (now Autograph).

“It was natural to open here,” Amrani says. “I know Wayne and I took care of Wayne people all those years. They hold you to high standards and if you deliver, they’re very loyal.”

Joseph’s brother Antoine is the artisan pastry chef/chocolatier (below) who’s whipping up confections for both cafés in Wayne’s new climate-controlled “lab kitchen” in the basement.

Devon interior designer Becky Wein turned the nondescript custom frame shop – which has been spiffed up since its move to larger space a few doors down – into a charming little café with pale pistachio and pink walls, elegant woodwork and tin ceiling. Dine in at one of a handful of café tables or gobble your goodies at a small bar in back.

Delice et Chocolat, 112 E. Lancaster Ave. Wayne (between Jules pizza and Dunkin), is open Tues – Thurs. 6 to 3, Fri. 6 to 4, Sat. 7 to 5, Sun. 7 to 3. Closed Mondays.
